Confederation College, Canada has joined venture with department of CSE of IUB to create the First Mechatronics Project in Bangladesh. It is a new, interdisciplinary field involving mechanical, instrumentation, electronics, robotics/automation, computer components and control systems. Only the top universities globally offer such courses.

With bright students handpicked from School Of Engineering and Computer Science the Mechatronics Team at IUB has successfully developed a Pulse Jet Engine. The team has worked over a week behind the project to bring it to success. Tasnik Khan of Confederation College, Canada; picked Tanjina Proma (CS), Rashed Mahmud (CS), Rakin Sarder Arko (EEE) as team members.Through the project they have learned to use regular Lathe components to produce aerospace grade parts, Tig welding, Material selection and the basic mechanics of Jet Engines. All the parts were acquired locally from Dholaikhal and Nawab Pur of Dhaka.

It was demonstrated on 23rd of July in the front courtyard of IUB. Safety was well ensured with 6 fire extinguishers standby, ear plugs and headphones to cover all spectators. According to Tasnik Khan, this is only the beginning of many mechatronics projects that will go on to IUB to ensure that a consistent interdisciplinary knowledge sharing occurs.
